Fellowship Dinner

Advanced Implants & Periodontics was honored to host a small group fellowship dinner with our referring doctors at Dr. Towe’s home. It was an engaging evening of dialogue with the accounting firm of LSWG (Linton Shafer Warfield & Garrett). They provided valuable information on how COVID-19 has impacted the field of dentistry from a financial and accounting perspective. Thank you to our wonderful referring doctors for their continued support! Special thanks to the team at LSWG for their expert accounting advice.

LANAP Training

Congratulations Dr. Towe who just returned from extensive training on a laser gum disease treatment – LANAP protocol. No cut No sew No fear at the end. LANAP is a clinically proven treatment for gum disease. An FDA-cleared laser treatment called the LANAP protocol offers a less painful, more successful treatment alternative to conventional surgery. LANAP=LAR is the only scientifically, research proven methodology that results in true periodontal regeneration, new bone growth and gum tissue reattachment. LANAP and LAR is accomplished with the PerioLase MVP-7. It is a free-running, variable pulsed Nd:YAG laser. The 7 variable pulse durations can be thought of as “different lasers” in one device as they have discrete and discriminating tissue interactions. The LANAP=LAR treatment is one of the most successful protocols in treating gum disease because it can target the source of the inflammation without hurting or removing any healthy gum tissue, slow or stop attachment loss and decrease pocket depth, and allowing the body to recover from the chronic infection without the need for scalpel or sutures. Ask us about it!

Happy Halloween 2020

Happy Halloween!!! Our team had so much fun dressing up as cats and would like to wish you a very “cat-tastic” day!!!

Laser Surgery

Seeking treatment for gum disease? Great news, we’re proud to be trained and certified on the premier laser treatment, the LANAP protocol. LANAP is a clinically proven laser treatment for gum disease. Ask us about it! https://www.frederickimplant.com/our_services/laser_dentistry/laser_treatment/   Laser-assisted treatment of gum disease Laser-assisted treatment with the LANAP® technique is a less invasive alternative to traditional surgery. Compared to traditional gum surgery, our patients typically report less pain and discomfort during and after the procedure. LANAP is a very patient friendly treatment with no cutting or suturing. You can get healthy gums comfortably and without fear. LANAP can treat gum tissue around teeth as well as around dental implants, to help you restore your dental health and beautiful smile. The LANAP protocol is a patented periodontal treatment, cleared by the FDA in 2004.  The procedure can only be done with the PerioLase® MVP-7. The specific wavelength of the laser targets gum disease-causing bacteria, while leaving healthy gum tissue intact. The tiny laser fiber is inserted between the teeth and gum tissue to vaporize bacteria that lie deep within the pockets. Laser-assisted treatment can greatly reduce post-surgical recession and tooth sensitivity that is usually seen following traditional gum surgery. Benefits of LANAP®: Less Discomfort– Patients report less discomfort during and after the procedure compared to traditional gum surgery treatment. More Rapid Healing– LANAP® is minimally invasive and allows faster healing. Most patients have no down time. Reduction in Gum Bleeding and Inflammation– The laser detoxifies the gums by targeting bacteria without injuring healthy tissue. Little to No Gum Recession–There is no cutting or suturing of the gums and therefore there is minimal gum shrinkage. This preserves your beautiful smile and reduces the chance of the teeth becoming sensitive to heat and cold. Safe for patients with Health Concerns – The LANAP® protocol is safe for patients with health concerns such as HIV, diabetes, hemophilia and for those taking blood thinners. Saves Teeth and Dental Implants– This technique has allowed patients to keep their natural teeth and dental implants when traditional treatments have failed. Laser Dentistry-LANAP

Most Important Teeth

Which are the most important teeth in your mouth?   You may think your front teeth are the most important and they are certainly the most visible.   However, from a functional and developmental point of view, the first molars (the first large posterior teeth behind the premolars) are the most important teeth. Teeth play a vital role in the appearance and symmetry of the face. They play a key role in occlusion, or how your jaw closes and lines up. Unfortunately, the first molars are often the first to be removed due to cavities. Removing these teeth at an early age can cause misalignment of the rest of the teeth, even leading to asymmetry of the face. Without the foundation of the first molar, the teeth next to the newly vacant space can start tipping toward the empty space, the opposing teeth start to grow out, and bone is lost where the tooth used to be. Up to 90% of the chewing function takes place in the first molar area. Quality of life and the ability to enjoy food can be significantly affected.   Fortunately, dental implants can replace missing teeth, arrest bone loss and restore volume, form and function. Bone grafting procedures may be used to replace lost bone allowing predictable implant placement.   If you or your loved one have one or more missing teeth, you may be a candidate for dental implants.
