Study Club

We were pleased to host our second annual Advanced Implants and Periodontics Study Club on May 2, 2019. We welcomed William (Bill) Grill, from Thompson Dental Laboratory to speak about Implants over Dentures and Hybrids. We want to thank our referring doctors for attending the meeting and a special thanks to Bill for a dynamic and informative lecture.

Preventing Periodontal Disease

Good Oral Hygiene Prevents Periodontal Disease Brush the teeth at least twice every day. Brushing removes plaque from the inner, outer, and chewing surfaces of each tooth. A dental hygienist can demonstrate the proper technique. Get a new toothbrush every three months or replace the head of electric brushes every three months or sooner based on wear from the indicator bristles. Some electric tooth brushes have been proven to reduce the risk of periodontal disease. Use toothpaste that contains fluoride and xylitol. Floss every day. Flossing removes plaque between the teeth that a toothbrush cannot reach. Use a mouthwash that kills bacteria. Eat a well-balanced diet; avoid too many sweets and processed carbohydrates.

Did you know?

The sequence in which foods are eaten can determine the risk for cavities! If you eat sugary foods after meals, you decrease the chance for cavities, as opposed to eating sugary foods alone.

Annual Gala & Auction

Advanced Implants & Periodontics was pleased to be a gold sponsor for the annual gala and auction for St. John Regional Catholic School. The event was themed as “St. John in the City” and we were featured on the Playbill for the classic, West Side Story. We were happy to share in such a fun evening!

Brushing Your Teeth

The most common mistake made when brushing your teeth (in the two times a day you should be doing it) is with the angle in which you are putting the tooth brush. When brushing your teeth, your toothbrush should be angled at a 45 degree angle, not at 90 degrees and the bristles are able to lay flat on the surface of the tooth. You want to make sure that you are grabbing all of the plaque from the tooth and moving it away, not just spreading it around.

Bacteria

More than 300 types of bacteria make up dental plaque, so make sure you’re brushing for at least 2 minutes each time you are performing your oral hygiene routine.

Dental Hygienist Week

We are celebrating Dental Hygienist’s Week! We are honored to have such a talented hygienist, Erica, working for our practice. She is very thorough with her work and makes all of her patients feel comfortable at each and every visit. Thank you for all you do for our patients!

Cha-Ching

The most valuable tooth belonged to Sir Isaac Newton. In 1816 one of his teeth was sold in London for $3,633, or in today’s terms $35,700. The tooth was set in a ring! (Source: Guinness World Records 2002).

Surprise Visitor

We had a special surprise visitor at our office today! Gianna, our surgical assistant’s daughter, came to say hello!

Don’t skip your checkups

Unlike our skin or bones, teeth cannot repair themselves once damaged, which is why it is important to look after your teeth and attend regular dental checkups.

Long in the Tooth

‘Long in the tooth’ (meaning ‘old’): This saying was originally used to describe horses. As horses age their gums recede, which gives the impression that their teeth are growing. The longer the teeth look, the older the horse is.

Academy of Osseointegration Annual Meeting

Dr. Towe had the privilege of attending the Academy of Osseointegration Annual Meeting in Washington, DC last week. She enjoyed participating in a Hands-on Workshop for Same-day Guided Immediate Placement and Provisionalization Using an Improved Digital Workflow. Digital planning allows reliable accuracy during implant placement and replacement of missing teeth in one day!
