Brushing too hard and too frequently can cause gum recession. One might think that the more they brush their teeth, the better their oral health is. However, this notion is wrong. Brushing too frequently can actually do damage to your gums, causing irritation and recession. Treat your gums the best by brushing every morning and night for two minutes each time.
We are proud to recognize a milestone for two of our team members this week! Our Surgical Assistant, Janet, has been with our practice for two years and our Billing Coordinator, Jerrica, is celebrating one year with the practice. We want to congratulate these ladies for their hard work every day and thank them for all they do for the practice and our patients. We look forward to celebrating many more years together!
The AIP team enjoyed a fun night out together at Pistarro’s in Frederick! They were joined by Jason who sponsored the event. Everyone dined on delicious pizza and drinks. The whole group had a wonderful evening and are anticipating their next Happy Hour!
We were pleased to host our second annual Advanced Implants and Periodontics Study Club on May 2, 2019. We welcomed William (Bill) Grill, from Thompson Dental Laboratory to speak about Implants over Dentures and Hybrids. We want to thank our referring doctors for attending the meeting and a special thanks to Bill for a dynamic and informative lecture.
Good Oral Hygiene Prevents Periodontal Disease Brush the teeth at least twice every day. Brushing removes plaque from the inner, outer, and chewing surfaces of each tooth. A dental hygienist can demonstrate the proper technique. Get a new toothbrush every three months or replace the head of electric brushes every three months or sooner based on wear from the indicator bristles. Some electric tooth brushes have been proven to reduce the risk of periodontal disease. Use toothpaste that contains fluoride and xylitol. Floss every day. Flossing removes plaque between the teeth that a toothbrush cannot reach. Use a mouthwash that kills bacteria. Eat a well-balanced diet; avoid too many sweets and processed carbohydrates.
The sequence in which foods are eaten can determine the risk for cavities! If you eat sugary foods after meals, you decrease the chance for cavities, as opposed to eating sugary foods alone.
Advanced Implants & Periodontics was pleased to be a gold sponsor for the annual gala and auction for St. John Regional Catholic School. The event was themed as “St. John in the City” and we were featured on the Playbill for the classic, West Side Story. We were happy to share in such a fun evening!
The most common mistake made when brushing your teeth (in the two times a day you should be doing it) is with the angle in which you are putting the tooth brush. When brushing your teeth, your toothbrush should be angled at a 45 degree angle, not at 90 degrees and the bristles are able to lay flat on the surface of the tooth. You want to make sure that you are grabbing all of the plaque from the tooth and moving it away, not just spreading it around.
More than 300 types of bacteria make up dental plaque, so make sure you’re brushing for at least 2 minutes each time you are performing your oral hygiene routine.
We are celebrating Dental Hygienist’s Week! We are honored to have such a talented hygienist, Erica, working for our practice. She is very thorough with her work and makes all of her patients feel comfortable at each and every visit. Thank you for all you do for our patients!
The most valuable tooth belonged to Sir Isaac Newton. In 1816 one of his teeth was sold in London for $3,633, or in today’s terms $35,700. The tooth was set in a ring! (Source: Guinness World Records 2002).
