Dental CT Scans
Computed tomography (CT or CAT scan) takes pictures of the internal structures of our bodies. We are pleased to be able to offer our patients state of the art 3-D dental imaging. Our CT machine allows Dr. Towe to determine and visualize precise location of your teeth as well as vital structures, such as the nerve, sinus, and blood vessels.
Our CT machine is specifically designed for dental imaging, radiation exposure is significantly less than a medical CT scan. During CT imaging, an x-ray tube rotates around you so that multiple images are collected from many angles. These images are stored in a computer that analyzes them to create a new image. This eliminates overlapping structures and makes the internal anatomy more apparent. This detailed information can be used to determine if there is a problem as well as the extent and exact location of the problem. It also allows Dr. Towe to virtually and precisely plan out your procedure on the computer software.
CT scans allow more effective surgical management by:
- Determining when surgeries are necessary
- Reducing the need for exploratory surgeries
- Improving diagnosis and treatment
- Allow previse pre-surgical planning and reducing the length of surgery
